Social Enterprise @ Schools

In trying to provide more opportunities for students, Coffee Queens as a social enterprise was founded. Coffee Queens is a social enterprise that proceeds the boundaries of education and enterprise. The concept connects students with experiential learning opportunities all while continuing to develop a social conscious. The inital concept was a hot beverages cart a College community to raise funds for social justice but over time the the program has created many more learning and commercial opportunities for the students to run.

 

Providing practical experience in the fields of business studies, commerce, economics, mathmatics, science, design and social justice, Coffee Queens is an enterprise run by students for the community.

 

Students from various backgrounds and years, collaborate each week to run and operate a business, providing quality customer service and create innovative ideas for entrepreneurship, learning and sustainability. With the support of partners like Darcy Street Project, students have the opportunity to gain barista training and qualifications along with business management training. All with a social entrepreneurial focus.

 

Not only are students learning the practicalities of running a business the ethos of Coffee Queens is aligned with the College values. All proceeds go towards building a Social Justice trust to fund other College social justice projects. Students and Staff are the trustees of the trust to ensure the longevity, sustainability of the community and social justice projects. 

 

Coffee Queens is a self funded eco system where the training, equipment, management of the business is run by the students and are encouraged to look for further opportunities. With the support of the community with hope this will encourage students to pursue social entrepreneurship pathways in the future.
